Accidents At Home

Over 2.7 million accidents occur in the home every year and if you have suffered from an accident that is not your fault then you may be able to claim compensation.

If you live in rented accommodation (either private or council) then the owner of the property has a duty to keep the property in good repair.  If you have been injured from the stairs giving way, part of the ceiling collapsing or even suffer from breathing difficulties due to mould growth then you may be able to make a claim.

Product liability may also be relevant to accidents at home as you can make a claim against the manufacturer or supplier of an item if it has injured you, such as being burnt by faulty hair straighteners or from a new chair breaking under your weight.

You may also be able to make a claim for substandard work that has been carried out on your home by workmen such as an injury caused by facias falling from the porch that has just been built and fitted by a builder, or if you have suffered an injury from tools left by workmen in your own home.
