Meet Jill Bulteel, a Director and Head of Family in South East Wales for JCP Solicitors. A Senior Practitioner, Jill specialises in divorce, financial and care proceedings, and the Children’s Act.

Jill is a member of the Law Society Children Panel, an Advanced Member of the Law Society’s Family Law Panel, and a member of Resolution, a code of conduct for family law specialists, ensuring the highest possible standards are maintained.

How long have you worked for JCP Solicitors?

I’ve been a qualified solicitor for 20 years, working as a Partner in Glamorgan Law during the past seven years before we merged with JCP Solicitors in 2017. The merger has brought about positive changes because the company is now much bigger, giving us many more specialists within our wider ‘family’ of legal experts we can turn to for expertise. Even though the business is larger, the focus is still very much on the client and delivery of a comprehensive service. I very much respect the fact that JCP Solicitors places great value on being an integral part of the communities it serves.

What is the most satisfying aspect of working in Family Law?

People come to a family solicitor at times of emotional upheaval. They may be going through a separation and feel their financial future, their home or their business is at risk, they may be dealing with a thorny family dispute, or an issue over the care of a child. During those initial meetings you see people at their lowest ebb emotionally. Being able to support them to get a resolution that puts them on a stable footing for the future is very satisfying.

How do you put a client at ease when they are consulting you during a particularly tough time their lives?

I listen carefully. When people can see they are being listened to they relax and gain confidence in my ability to help them.  I do all I can to establish a rapport so we can work towards viable solutions together.

You work out of the Cowbridge office for much of your working week. What’s your favorite spot in Cowbridge?

Cowbridge has a community feel and a unique character because of its independent traders. I particularly like Strawberry Fields, for its fresh fruit and veg, and I’m fan of the Sunday lunch at the Penny Farthing.

What do you do in your spare time?

My family and I spend a lot of time in our boots, walking in Brecon. Law can be stressful and getting out into nature with my family, enjoying big skies, fresh air and wildlife is a joy.
