JCP Solicitors Wears Its Heart on Its Sleeve With Charity of the Year Choice

  • Posted

JCP Solicitors’ Social and Community Group has chosen Welsh Hearts as the Wales-based law firm’s charity of the year for the next 12 months – and it hopes to enable the charity to install a defibrillator within each of the nine communities it serves.

Welsh Hearts is well-known for placing more than 1,300 defibrillators in public and communal spaces – from rugby grounds and pubs, to libraries and churches - within communities across Wales, in a drive to safeguard people at risk of premature death from cardiovascular disease.

JCP hopes, by March 2019, to raise the £13,500 needed to install nine such pieces of life-saving equipment in prominent public spaces near to all the JCP offices, from Swansea, Cardiff, and Caerphilly, to Fishguard, Haverfordwest and St Davids. JCP has also engaged Welsh Hearts to go into the JCP offices to train staff on how to use the defibrillators.

JCP Solicitors HR Manager Jenny Jones, said: “Welsh Hearts does such valuable, life-saving work across the country to safeguard people, by providing free defibrillators in public places and free CPR training, and by doing so much to raise awareness about undetected heart problems.

“JCP Solicitors has always been a keen supporter of good causes and we are proud of our community ethos. Welsh Hearts feels like a particularly good fit for us, since they help the very communities we serve, throughout South and West Wales. We look forward to working closely with them over the coming year.”

Sharon Owen, Director of Welsh Hearts said: “We are very pleased that JCP Solicitors’ Social and Community Group chose our charity. Without support from our local communities and from businesses such as JCP Solicitors we would not be able to provide the support we offer, which saves lives in Wales every year – we are striving to secure a future where nobody in Wales dies prematurely from heart disease.

“Cardiovascular disease accounts for a third of all deaths in Wales, where the death rate is higher than in the majority of countries in Western Europe, and Welsh Hearts is the leading heart charity in Wales for placing defibrillators in communities and delivering CPR and defibrillator training.”

JCP Solicitors has, over the years, donated thousands to good causes and organised a host of charity activities for their nominated charities, including Friends of Stepping Stones, Wales Air Ambulance, Cerebra, Tenovus, Headway and the Paul Sartori Foundation.
