The Anti Gravity Treadmill- Walking On The Moon.

It’s not often that you have the opportunity to feel what it is like to walk on the moon, but that’s exactly what some of our Injury Services team experienced at a recent visit to a local specialist Neuro–Physiotherapy clinic, Equinox Physiotherapy Partnership.

Members of the Injury Services team, who specialise in catastrophic and brain injury, were given the opportunity to attend the clinic to see first-hand the facilities and services available to individuals who have suffered neurological injury, including head and spinal injuries.

This included the opportunity to try out the clinic’s new anti-gravity treadmill; a futuristic piece of equipment utilising technology originally designed by engineers at NASA, which enables an individual to step, walk, jog or run on the treadmill but with the benefit of being able to change the air pressure around the lower body; essentially reducing the weight being borne through the individual’s lower limbs.

The anti-gravity treadmill offers significant rehabilitative benefits to individuals with neurological or musculoskeletal conditions, including strengthening and improving the use of the lower limbs with the benefit of being able to adjust the level of body weight being borne as necessary, and without the risk of falling as with a standard treadmill.

Ensuring provision for appropriate specialist rehabilitation and treatment is a key aspect of pursuing a claim on behalf of an injured person, including individuals who have suffered a life-changing injury, such as brain or spinal injury. Rehabilitative treatment can take many different forms in addition to specialist physiotherapy; often including specialist private speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, counselling or psychotherapy and support.

Depending on the circumstances of the case, our Injury Services team can ensure that such rehabilitation is either provided during the course of the case, or provision for future rehabilitative care or treatment is included as part of a final settlement.

The Injury Services team are looking forward to seeing the benefit that the new anti-gravity treadmill, in addition to the support and treatment of the specialist private neuro-physiotherapy team, will have in the rehabilitative programmes of our clients who have suffered brain and spinal injuries.
