Tomas Davies

Associate Solicitor - Inheritance and Trusts Disputes

Tomas is an Associate Solicitor in the Inheritance and Trusts Disputes team based in Carmarthen.

Tomas graduated from Swansea University in 2021 with a 2:1 Honours Degree in Law (LLB) before moving on to study a Masters in Legal Practice and Advanced Drafting (LLM). His Masters project focused on Proprietary Estoppel within the agricultural sector.

Tomas first joined JCP in August 2019 as an Undergraduate Legal Assistant in the Injury Services team during his second and final year of his undergraduate degree, primarily handling the new enquiries for Medical Negligence and Personal Injury. Tomas then returned in March 2021 to the Inheritance and Trusts Disputes team as a Legal Assistant and began his training contract in April 2022.

Tomas qualified as a Solicitor in November 2023 upon successful completion of his training contract at JCP, during which he spent the full duration in the Inheritance and Trusts Disputes team. He has in-depth knowledge and experience of conducting cases including but not limited to:

  • Contesting the validity of Wills and Trusts
  • Bringing and Defending claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975
  • Cases to remove executors of Estates, or to seek compensation for losses.
  • Cases involving the actions of trustees or assisting in determining what a trust requires to be done.
  • Cohabitation Disputes under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996
  • Cases involving claims against Estates, farms and business assets based upon proprietary estoppel and/or constructive trust.

The nature of this area of law is inherently stressful for most people who find themselves in need of legal advice. Tomas recognises this and works closely with clients to achieve outcomes that relieve this burden. He understands that finding a solution to a problem through negotiations is often as, if not more, effective for all parties involved than running a case to Trial. Minimising costs throughout is also high on Tomas’s priority list, and he will work towards running your case as cost-efficiently as possible.

Tomas adopts a sensible approach to matters and will be on hand to take you through your matter via email, telephone, video calls, and in-person appointments.

Outside of work, Tomas holds the position of Sports Officer for the Swansea & District Junior Lawyers Division. He enjoys most sports, in particular golf and cricket and currently plays cricket for the Swansea Law Society Cricket Club and Carmarthen Wanderers CC, having also represented Wales and Welsh Colleges at various age groups.
