 Many lenders will be dismayed that some police forces are reported to be reducing the resources devoted to fighting mortgage fraud and that one force has been reported to admit that it will no longer carry out any investigations.

At the same time, and by all measures, the rate of mortgage fraud continues to increase with the National Fraud Authority suggesting that the scale of the losses to mortgage fraud exceed £1bn per year.
