Good Divorce Week 2025: Supporting Constructive Practice
Good Divorce Week takes place from 10th November 2025, led by Resolution and promoting constructive approaches to divorce. As proud members of the Resolution network, JCP Solicitors follows the Resolution Code of Practice to provide expert legal advice and guidance which centres the family and promotes positive outcomes. Angela Killa, Director in the Family team at JCP, explains how the Resolution Code of Practice guides her approach to divorce.
Resolution, a family justice organisation connecting the public with over 6,500 accredited family law professionals, guides Solicitors to follow their Code of Practice. This Code acts as a Bible for family justice professionals, ensuring Solicitors consider the needs of the whole family when advising on a divorce which involves children.
The concept of a ‘good divorce’ may sound alien to some, as divorce is often presented as two parties going against one another after a relationship has reached breaking point. Yet, it is achievable to have a good divorce – one that considers the needs of the family, particularly where children are involved – even if communication between parties has become fraught.
Following Resolution’s Code of Practice, your Solicitor can support you to reduce or manage any conflict or confrontation while supporting and encouraging families to put the best interest of children first. Resolution members act with integrity, honesty and objectivity, listening without judgement to understand your circumstances.
Resolution members also support clients to understand and manage the potential long-term financial and emotional consequences of decisions. While it can be difficult to think too far into the future when facing the emotional strain of divorce, your legal representative can provide impartial advice and specialist guidance to ensure you, and your family, get a positive outcome with long-term benefit.
By following the Code of Practice, your Solicitor can become a trusted member of your support network when going through what can be a life-changing process. We provide a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on when you need it, and constructive advice when you feel ready to take the next step. We recognise that divorce is not a decision clients make lightly, and understand that everyone’s situation has different needs and sensitivities.
By following the Code, we can provide you with specialist, tailored support and ensure that children’s needs form the foundations upon which all decisions which impact them are made. We know that parents only want the best for their children, and we are here to help you achieve that while you navigate your next chapter.
