Should I Use AI To Write My Will?

Artificial Intelligence is fast becoming part of everyday life. Many of us now instinctively turn to AI when we have a question, need some information or even want help drafting a document.

AI can be an incredibly useful tool, but when it comes to something as important as your Will, there is a big difference between producing a document and receiving professional advice.

When we meet with a client, the value is not simply in recording their instructions. Often, it lies in the questions clients were not expecting us to ask.

A conversation about your Will can reveal things you might not have thought were relevant: family dynamics, previous relationships, vulnerable beneficiaries, concerns about inheritance, property ownership or simply what you really mean when you say, “I just want everything to go to the children.”

Sometimes it is a hesitation, an off-hand comment or an answer to a follow-up question that changes the advice we give.

That is where professional experience matters.

A legal professional can explore your circumstances, identify potential problems and help you think about situations you may not have considered. We can also look beyond what you want to happen today and help you futureproof your Will, considering how your wishes might work if your family or financial circumstances change.

The problem may only be discovered when it is too late

A Will is unusual because it does not take effect until after you pass away.

That means mistakes, ambiguities or unintended consequences in a homemade or AI-generated Will may not become apparent until the person who made it is no longer here to explain what they meant or put things right.

At that stage, resolving a problem can cause additional expense, delay and, in some cases, disagreement between the people left behind.

Spending money on appropriate advice now could potentially avoid considerably greater expense later, as well as the additional worry and heartache that problems with a Will can create for a family at an already difficult time.

More than just a document

When you instruct us to prepare your Will, you are not simply paying for someone to type your wishes into a legal document.

You are paying for more than paperwork. You are giving yourself the time and support to talk through what matters most, with someone who listens, asks the right questions and offers advice tailored to you. It is about helping you feel confident that your wishes are clearly recorded and the people you care about are provided for as you intend, while reducing the risk of uncertainty or costly disputes later.

AI can help you ask questions. A legal professional can help make sure you are asking the right ones and answer these for you.
