Mia Thomas-Powell – Client Engagement Team

Coming from a non-law degree background, joining the Client Engagement Team was a great way to gain practical legal experience and a clearer understanding of where I wanted my career to progress.

The role provided an invaluable introduction to the legal profession and ultimately helped me identify my interest in Residential Property.

Day to day, I worked closely with across a variety of service areas, speaking with potential new clients, directing clients to the correct teams, and helping clients access the legal support they needed. I also had the opportunity to meet with walk-in clients and discuss how the firm could assist them. These experiences significantly increased my confidence when communicating with clients, solicitors and other JCP team members.

One of the most valuable aspects of the role was gaining an understanding of the full client journey. For example, a client may initially contact the firm regarding a Probate matter before later requiring assistance with a Probate sale through the Residential Property team. This role gave me a broader understanding of how legal teams work together and how a law firm operates.

I learned a huge amount during my time at the CET due to the variety of enquiries that came through the team. Every day is different, CET requires you to think quickly, adapt to different situations and communicate sensitively with clients. It is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to gain a deeper understanding of the legal profession and develop valuable skills that support progression in your legal career.

The team is very supportive of career development, and CET gave me the confidence to apply for a Legal Assistant role within the Residential Property team.

For anyone looking to gain practical legal experience, build a wide legal knowledge and develop a genuine understanding of how a law firm works, I would strongly recommend the Client Engagement Team. It is a unique role that provides an excellent springboard into a legal career and offers significant opportunities for personal and professional development.
