Rhian Smith joined JCP Solicitors as a trainee in 2014, finding her vocation within Medical Negligence and her passion for achieving the right outcome for her clients, whilst providing them with the support they need to deal with the legal process. Rhian has an important role in spearheading the Medical Negligence team in East Wales following JCP’s recent merger and major expansion, and has been noted as “one to watch” by her JCP colleagues and directors.
Rhian appreciates that every client has different experiences and objectives when pursuing a claim, and provides an extremely professional service whilst maintaining a friendly and approachable demeanour. Working mainly from the Cardiff office, Rhian deals with a range of cases across the full spectrum of Medical Negligence and has quickly advanced her career to focus on high-value, complex cases. Rhian was also recently nominated for the AVMA Clinical Negligence Rising Star award for the whole of the UK and was shortlisted to the final 12, only narrowly missing the final 3.
Rhian has been practicing medical negligence since 2011 and has a wealth of experience in the area. She has dealt with a wide range of cases including delay in treatment and diagnosis of cancer, orthopaedic and limb amputation, gynaecological negligence, sepsis and fatal cases.
Whilst working as a medical negligence paralegal from 2011 until 2014, Rhian simultaneously studied her Legal Practice Course at Cardiff Law School, which she completed with a distinction in June 2014. Rhian joined JCP Solicitors as a trainee solicitor in September 2014 and completed seats in Family and Lifetime Planning, Dispute Resolution Services and Medical Negligence.
Originally from Tenby, she has held the role of National Committee Representative for the West Wales Junior Lawyers Division and on moving to JCP’s Cardiff office, Rhian was elected as Education Officer for the Cardiff and South East Wales Junior Lawyers Division, assisting this key networking and training body to provide the very best training for young lawyers.
Outside of work Rhian enjoys winding down by experimenting in photography and baking. Rhian also likes to keep fit and in recent years she has competed in a number of fundraising events including the Cardiff Half Marathon and the Swansea RNLI Mumbles Raft Race. Rhian is proud to have also completed the GE Aviation Wales Welsh 3 Peaks Challenge 2016 in aid of Tŷ Hafan.
