Andrew is the Head of Insolvency at JCP and has developed a reputation in South and West Wales for his expertise in this field. As well as acting for a portfolio of clients including insolvency practitioners, receivers, companies, partnerships, directors and other individuals, Andrew also provides advice on contentious and non-contentious insolvency issues to longstanding commercial clients of JCP, including high street lenders.
Having joined the firm’s busy insolvency practice and acted in high profile liquidations and administrations at an early stage of his career, Andrew was singled out as a “Next Generation Lawyer” in the field of insolvency in the 2017 edition of the industry bible, the Legal 500. In addition, Andrew is described as an “excellent up and coming talent” and a “rising star” in client testimonials from the 2016 and 2017 editions.
An associate member of R3 (the Association of Business Recovery Professionals), the majority of Andrew’s caseload consists of insolvency-based litigation arising out of administrations, liquidations and bankruptcies. That work usually involves advising upon and acting in disputes arising out of antecedent transactions, void dispositions and validations, breach of duty and misfeasance claims and transactions intended to defraud creditors In addition however, Andrew regularly acts in an advisory capacity on non-contentious matters including transactions by insolvency office-holders, handles general commercial litigation and commercial recoveries for high street lenders.
Andrew prides himself on quickly developing solid relationships with his clients and giving early pragmatic advice in litigated matters to achieve cost-effective resolutions. Andrew impresses upon his clients the benefits of exploring alternative dispute resolution and has had numerous successful outcomes at mediations. He also has extensive trial experience up to and including the Court of Appeal in the absence of settlement, and is adept at guiding clients through what can otherwise be a daunting process.
Andrew joined JCP as a trainee in 2010, qualified in 2012 and was appointed as a director in April 2018. Andrew is an active member of the Swansea & District Law Society, having organised sporting events and played for its cricket team for the past 6 years, which mostly involves substandard bowling and arranging the annual European Tour.
In his spare time, Andrew enjoys trying to keep fit by way of any sport going, playing the guitar and travelling to anywhere likely to present a language barrier.
