Professor of Public Policy and the Governance of Wales at Cardiff University's Wales Governance Centre, Laura is a Welsh academic, former international footballer and sports administrator.
She is an expert on Welsh politics, public policy and leadership and the feminisation of politics, and has held numerous key roles throughout her political career. She is trustee of the Institute of Welsh Affairs and a non-executive director of Goodson Thomas Executive Search.
As a former Wales women’s international football player, Laura won 24 caps and served as team captain. She was Chair of Sport Wales for four years, when she oversaw the most successful period ever for elite sport in Wales. She was also a board member of UK Sport, when Team GB broke its medal-winning records. She is currently Director of the Football Association of Wales Trust and Chair of the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame.
Laura is a political commentator for the BBC and writes a regular column on current affairs, sport and politics in the Western Mail and Wales Online.
She holds honorary degrees and fellowships from Bangor, Cardiff, Cardiff Metropolitan, Swansea, and Trinity St David’s universities and is a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales and the Royal Society of the Arts. Laura was appointed CBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours in 2016.
