Swansea’s own Half Marathon has been shortlisted for the UK Running Awards 2015 and they need your vote as they compete in the best half marathon category.

JCP Swansea Half Marathon is the only Welsh candidate in the half marathon category competing against the likes of the BUPA Great North Run, Surrey Half Marathon and Brighton Half Marathon. Winner of the category will be announced at an awards ceremony that will take place in London in April 2015.

The news follows the runs’ recent success of receiving high commendation for two local awards for best new business and best event at the Swansea Bay Tourism Awards, held in late November – only a year into the company’s establishment.

Set up in early 2014 by directors David Martin-Jewell and Nick Francis, who had a vision to launch a half marathon in Swansea, the business has gone from strength to strength. Having attracted principal sponsorship from leading law firm, JCP Solicitors, the inaugural run in June this year was a huge success quickly leading to the 2015 date being announced along with the news that JCP Solicitors were remaining as headline sponsor for a further two years.

David Martin-Jewell, co-founder, said:

“We are thrilled to hear that we have been shortlisted for the UK Running Awards 2015 - to also hear that we are the only Welsh candidate is fantastic news.

“Considering we have only been in existence since earlier this year, to be shortlisted for such awards leaves us feeling very proud. We are extremely grateful for the immense support we have received from JCP Solicitors and our other sponsors and volunteers.”

Hayley Davies, CEO of JCP Solicitors, added:

“The team at JCP Solicitors is thrilled to hear that the Swansea Half Marathon has been shortlisted for an award at the UK Running Awards 2015. The event continues to win the hearts and minds of people locally and has brought visitors to Swansea from all over the world.

“We are delighted to be part of such a great local event and the recognition of being shortlisted for national and local awards in the first year of the business is wonderful news.”
