Charity of the Year

We are delighted to be supporting 2 Wish as our Charity of the Year 2021/2022. It is a charity that is very close to our hearts.

2 Wish is a Welsh charity whose aim is to ensure those affected by the sudden and traumatic death of a child or young adult (aged 25 or under) receive the important support they deserve by providing immediate and ongoing bereavement support for families, individuals and professionals.

This charity has been invaluable to a member of JCP who suffered a sudden and devastating loss. Here she shares her story:

“In 2014, I lost my little boy who was aged just 5-months-old. He stopped breathing and even though the hospital did everything they could, he didn’t make it and we lost him to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). At the time, there was no help or support from the hospital. We received a phone call from our GP, and then we were sent home with an envelope containing a lock of my little boy's hair.

"We felt there was a huge gap in terms of support for families like us - families going through the most horrific, unimaginable time in their lives. When I met Rhian from 2 Wish, I knew she had the same feelings as us; that something needed to change. Not only did she lose her son not long before we lost ours, she also lost her husband as a result of that tragic event when he took his own life.

"Since 2014, Rhian has done amazing things for hundreds of families in Wales, raising awareness, organising fundraising events and making sure all families have the support they need at such devastating times.

"Rhian’s incredible efforts have even been recognised on a national level when she won a Pride of Britain award in 2020."

We hope our activities in support of 2 Wish will raise valuable funds and will also raise awareness about this important issue, prompting others to get behind the important work Rhian and her team do at 2 Wish.
