Wills and Lifetime Planning
Making a Will is often seen as something only older people should do. It is actually a very important part of Lifetime Planning for us all. But Lifetime Planning is not simply about making a Will in later life. Our clients range from younger working professionals, business owners including those with farming and agricultural interests to the recently retired professional and older couples.
If you do not have a valid Will in place then the “Rules of Intestacy” govern what will happen to your home, finances and belongings.
Often our clients are very surprised at these strict and out of date rules, especially as they do not take account of modern day family situations such as second marriages, step children and unmarried partners.
A Will can allow you to make provision for elderly or disabled relatives and also any charities that you may support. For those with children under the age of 18, a Will also allows you to appoint someone to be their guardian. For many this will be the most important decision.
We have helped many clients with tax saving techniques through the use of certain types of Wills or Trusts. Often the type of Will or Trust used will depend on the family and business circumstances of the client.
Lifetime Planning also includes considering matters such as future or current care home costs and Lasting Powers of Attorney.
At JCP we think it is rewarding to help our clients to put in place those legal documents that ensure that their family, property and assets that they have worked hard for are protected and we hope to become the trusted legal advisors to our clients throughout their lifetime.
So whether you just need a straightforward simple Will, or you feel your circumstances are more complex, our team can help.
