Two senior partners got their hands dirty for their local community. The firm joined forces with Business in the Community’s Wales Cares programme, to help redecorate Cwm Glas Primary School in Winch Wen, Swansea. As the hub of the community, the school cares for over 270 children from all walks of life and offers free school meals, plus support to over a quarter of the children with special educational needs. After suffering a run of defacement, which has included four burglaries and persistent vandalism amounting to over £5000 in damages.

However help is at hand for Cwm Glas Primary as staff at John Collins & Partners LLP rolled up their sleeves on Monday 26th June, to scrub, shine and paint a key room in the school and give it a new lease of life. Managing Partner Paul Newman and Senior Partner Steven Penny joined nine other members of staff for the revamp all of whom have been given a fully paid day’s release to undertake the project.

paul&steve3Managing Partner, Paul Newman was clearly looking forward to the challenge ahead: "We are delighted to be able to help Cwm Glas Primary school through our involvement with Business in the Community’s Wales Cares programme. The programme is all about bringing people in the community together to help improve local facilities and after years of serious vandalism the school is in desperate need of some extra pairs of hands to help restore it to its former glory.  Cwm Glas Primary offers an invaluable service to all its pupils and the staff are tireless in their efforts to make the best of the facilities available.  If we can help them revive an area of work then we will have succeeded in our task."

The room up for redecoration is currently out of action and will be transformed for use primarily as a quiet area for the pupils aged between 3-7 years to enjoy.  However it will also provide a crucial space for the staff to use for a multitude of activities including interviews, medicals, teaching assessments and for giving one-to-one support to children with special educational needs.

Mr Osborne head teacher at Cwm Glas Primary school commented on the forthcoming project: "It is wonderful to get the support of John Collins & Partners LLP to assist in the school’s revamp and help children and families benefit from the great work the staff do within the community. I hope this project will encourage other local businesses to join up to the Business in Wales Cares programme and lend their support and time to other worthy causes – a little goes a long way.  We are looking forward to seeing the end result!"
