Businesses Lose Out on Bank Holidays

 A number of businesses could be miscalculating the bank holiday entitlement of part-time workers according to one of Wales’ largest independent law firms, JCP Solicitors.

The warning comes as JCP Solicitors, which has local offices in Swansea, Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire, hosts a series of free workshops at their Whitland office at Landsker Business Centre to help local businesses stay ahead of employment law and HR issues.

Employment Update: Parental Leave

The Government launched a consultation this week on reforming, amongst other things, parental leave and flexible working.

The consultation proposes to provide mothers with an automatic 18 week period of paid leave, then leaving a remaining maximum leave of 34 weeks to be shared out between the mother and father.

National Sickie Day

Monday 7 February 2011 was “National Sickie Day” where approximately 375,000 employees were predicted to have called in to work sick. This causes an enormous impact on the economy, with business advisers ELAS estimating costs in the region of £32 million as a result of such absenteeism. 

Partner Appointments To Drive Growth in Law Firm

Leading South Wales law firm, John Collins and Partners Solicitors (JCP), has appointed two new partners to help drive the businesses plans for expansion and growth.

Paul Shuttleworth joins JCP as Partner in the HR and Employment Law team, while Sarah Davies, a solicitor at the firm since 2003, has been promoted to Partner from within JCP’s Dispute Resolution arm.
