My name is Lisa Marie Hoare and I started my training contract with John Collins & Partners LLP in September 2005. My chosen path of study was not the conventional one as my first Degree was in English followed by a Masters in Forenstic Linguistics at
My first year was spent in the firm’s commercial division. I completed my first 6 months in Employment law and Commercial Litigation. I then moved to Property Litigation and Commercial Property for the second six months. I thoroughly enjoyed my first year and was also able to attend many events, seminars and functions outside of the office. Meeting clients and being made to feel part of each team was an integral part of the training contract, as it encouraged my interpersonal skills as well as enhancing my legal knowledge.
My second year of training commenced in the firm’s Private Client Division, where I completed my third seat in Personal Injury and Medical Negligence. This seat proved to be extremely interesting and again I had the opportunity of being involved in a wide variety of cases and was encouraged to experience all aspects of what this area of law had to offer.
I am currently completing my final placement in the firm’s conveyancing department. I am working on the local team which deals with a wide variety of residential conveyancing. It is an area of law which can only be fully appreciated in a real working environment as each case provides new learning opportunities and challenges. I am delighted to be staying in the local conveyancing team when I qualify as a solicitor in September of this year.
The main advantage of training with John Collins & Partners is that I have always felt confident that I could approach my supervisors with questions and queries knowing that there was always help and support at hand. I feel I have been given the opportunity to undertake an invaluable training contract, where I have experienced all aspects of both contentious and non-contentious work. I know that a training contract with John Collins & Partners will equip me for what I hope proves to be a prosperous legal career.
